Cuomo said he would resign from his position following a report by the New York State attorney general that concluded he sexually harassed multiple women during his time as governor. Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, a centrist Democrat, was not mentioned in the investigative report.
Hochul was a lawyer, legislative aide, county clerk, U.S. representative, and government relations specialist before becoming Lieutenant Governor of New York.
Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, Nevada, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin have never had a female governor. On August 24, 2021, however, Hochul will become the first female governor of New York, and the state's 57th governor.
Hochul will be the 45th woman to serve as governor of a U.S. state.
