IDF Accuses Palestinian Stabbing Attempt Using Image From 2018

IDF accuses Palestinian women of attempting to stab an IDF fighter and share an image of the weapon.

The official Twitter account of the Israeli Defense Force posted a tweet in Hebrew which claimed that their fighters recently identified a suspicious woman who pulled out a knife and tried to stab an IDF fighter. Along the claim is an image of the knife allegedly used by the suspect. The incident resulted in the shooting of the Palestinian. The claim has since spread and been shared by other verified accounts on Twitter and news sites here.
Misbar’s Analysis
MENA: A reverse image search using TinEye, pictured below, was done, which revealed that the image was first uploaded in June 2018, pictured below.
Upon further investigation, it was found that the image was used even earlier on 13 February 2018 on an Arabic news site along with a similar story, as seen below.
Given the findings, the Misbar team confirms that the image used was misleading. The knife pictured was not used in any attempted stabbing and questioned the entirety of the accompanying claim.
