Emerging story
On August 11, following the previous day’s announcement of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation, the International Business Times published an article called “Kathy Hochul: Nancy Pelosi's 'Evil' Stepsister To Become NY Governor as Cuomo Resigns; Here's the Truth.” Many social media users shared the article and the claim.
Misbar’s Analysis
Hochul and Pelosi are not related, and certainly aren't stepsisters. Pelosi’s parents, Annunciata and Thomas D’Alesandro, remained married until Thomas’s death; Pelosi had no stepparents and thus no stepsiblings.
Similarly, Hochul’s parents, Patricia and Jack Courtney, stayed married until Patricia’s death; Hochul also had no stepparents and thus no stepsiblings.
Further, the article by the International Business Times actually calls the claim that Hochul and Pelosi are related a hoax. If the social media users sharing the article had read further than the headline, they would realize the mixup.
Hochul will become New York’s 57th governor on August 28, 2021.
