Emerging story
On Aug 15, Jenna Ellis was given a 12-hour suspension on Twitter. This was quickly picked up by social media and various right-wing news outlets. These outlets pushed the narrative that she was suspended for criticizing the president.
Jenna Ellis is an attorney best known for being part of former President Donald Trump’s legal defense team. She left the GOP after pushing various claims of election fraud, which have since been disproven.
Misbar’s Analysis
We found that Ellis didn’t just criticize Biden; she also implied that all refugees from Afghanistan are terrorists. In her now-deleted response, she replied to another tweet that notes Biden is allowing over 30,000 Afghan refugees sanctuary on American military bases. She said, "So Biden is literally bringing in terrorists. #IMPEACHBIDENNOW."
It can be found on Poltitweet, which archives the tweets of various public figures.
Twitter's hateful conduct policy includes a section that says they prohibit behavior and content intended “to incite fear or spread fearful stereotypes about a protected category, including asserting that members of a protected category are more likely to take part in dangerous or illegal activities, e.g., ‘all [religious group] are terrorists.’”
Since Ellis' tweet implies that all Afghan people are terrorists, it is in clear violation of Twitter's hateful conduct policy.
