Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar found that the claim originates from a satirical Facebook page and McDonald’s is not offering such a high starting wage. The About Me for the page that originally announced the $31 wage, City of Rome, GA & Floyd County, says: “Not affiliated with any Government agency. This page is completely satirical.”
According to Workstream, in the United States, the average starting pay for McDonald’s is around $8 per hour. In Georgia, on average, McDonald’s crew members earn $9.73 an hour. The highest salaries in Georgia go to general managers who earn around $45,000 yearly. This is still less than the supposed starting wage of $31 hourly.
McDonald’s did recently raise the hourly wage for workers in its company-owned stores due to labor shortages. In an attempt to attract more employees to these stores, McDonald’s is now offering $13 an hour. However, this is only applicable to the 650 company-owned branches within the United States and won’t affect other McDonald’s franchises.
