Emerging story
On August 25, Russia Today published on their official Twitter a picture of an Afghan family who left Afghanistan, in which the family members appear loaded with weapons.
Misbar’s Analysis
MENA: The weapons shown in the picture were added using Photoshop. The original photo was taken by Johanna Geron and published on Reuters on August 25.
We also noticed a comment inside the image published by Russia Today, confirming that the image was modified using Photoshop. Still, the note was written vertically, with small font and size challenging to see without inclusive inspection.
It is also noteworthy that the account of the Russia Today channel deleted the tweet containing the image after criticism was spread on social media concerning the fabricated photo.
Misbar was able to find the original tweet on the Internet Archive.
These allegations came after the Taliban's takeover of Kabul on August 15, which led to thousands of Afghans striving to leave the country through Kabul's airport.
