A video of an Indian military group in distress has been circulating on social media. In the clip, several men in uniform can be seen lying on the ground while being attended to by others, and distressed voices shouting can be heard. According to several Twitter users, this incident directly resulted from these men getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
Misbar’s Analysis
This claim is false; the vaccine had nothing to do with what was happening in this video. It was the result of a military exercise. During a ten-kilometer run, 30 soldiers suffered heatstroke due to severe weather conditions. The heat and humidity of the Pathankot area are extremely high during August, and it was too much for both the enlisted men to endure. Unfortunately, one junior soldier died due to heatstroke, and two others had to be hospitalized.
Despite misinformation such as that of the claim, vaccinations in India are currently on the rise. The country is still struggling to handle its end of the pandemic, but as vaccines have grown in availability, more and more Indians have received their doses.
