The Claim

Germany halts all COVID-19 vaccines, says they are unsafe & no longer recommended.

Emerging story

A claim is circulating on social media which states that Germany has halted all COVID-19 vaccines. The claim alleges that the reason for this is that the vaccines are no longer safe and therefore not recommended. Some users added that the vaccine license had been put on hold.

Misbar’s Analysis

Upon investigation, the Misbar team found the claim to be misleading. The source of the claim shared by users was a German video, which mentioned that the vaccine was to be halted. However, the context of the video is hypothetical. The account Corona-Ausschuss, which claims to investigate government-imposed Covid-19 restrictions, shared the original video. In reply to the tweet, they said in German that the video is a “Global Pandemic Exit Exercise” and therefore not actual action taken by the German government.

Furthermore, no credible news source was found to be reporting on the very newsworthy claim. On the contrary, as of August 25th, Germany has vaccinated over 100 million people. The German health minister Jens Spahn celebrated the news in a tweet, saying this is a milestone, and thanked everyone who helped. Given the findings and context, the Misbar team confirms the news as dangerously misleading, spurring already high fears of the vaccine amongst certain groups of people.
