Misbar’s Analysis
While there was a movie called Rothchild that Mel Gibson was going to star in, it had nothing to do with the Rothschild family and Gibson was not directing it. Rothchild was announced at the 2019 Cannes Marché du Film, a film marketplace that’s attached to the famous festival. It was going to star Gibson and Shia LaBeouf with Jon S. Baird set to direct it.
According to a spokesperson for Gibson, the movie was “completely unrelated” to the Rothschild family. Rothchild was going to be a dark comedy about a wealthy New York family. While the title is possibly a reference to the real-life Rothschilds, the movie was not based on them or meant to “expose” any hidden New World Order agendas.
Immediately after its announcement, the film received a lot of media backlash. The Rothschild family is the subject of quite a few anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. Given Gibson’s history of anti-Semitic rants, many found him to be an odd casting choice for the film.
However, it appears that the movie is no longer going to happen. HanWay Films, the company that owned the rights to the movie, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2020 that Rothchild is “no longer happening.”
