The Claim

A viral Tik Tok video shows Cassie Compton, a teenage girl that went missing six years ago.

Emerging story

A viral TikTok video shows a girl in the backseat of a car while two men talk in the foreground. The girl has dark rings around her eyes, and stares blankly at the camera. Social media users began to claim that the girl is missing 15-year-old Cassie Compton.

Misbar’s Analysis

The girl in the video is not the missing girl. While she looks very similar to Compton, she has publicly stated she is not Compton and explained her appearance. She said that her name is “Haley Grace,” and that she received her black eyes during an unrelated robbery. She added that she does not need assistance at this time. She has been identified as Haley Phillips and does appear in missing person registries herself.

Compton went missing from her hometown of Stuttgart, Arkansas, and after social media users incorrectly identified the girl, with the best intentions, many people contacted the local police department to investigate. The FBI was involved with the investigation of the video as well, but all efforts proved that the girl was not Compton.

On September 14, 2004, Cassie Compton went missing after leaving home that evening. She said she was going to the store and was never seen again. Police have little evidence and no leads in Compton’s case.
