Emerging story
A recent image has been spreading on social media that appears to be a notice from the Canadian division of Walmart. This notice states that as of November 1st, customers will need to prove that they are vaccinated before entering any Walmart in Canada.
Others have claimed that this information is true based upon communications with Walmart Canada’s head office. These posts have gained hundreds of interactions.
Misbar’s Analysis
Walmart Canada’s verified Twitter account has confirmed that the notice is false. In a tweet that responded to the claim that an individual had contacted the Walmart head office and received a confirmation of the vaccination notice, Walmart Canada said simply, “This information is not true.” The tweet then elaborated that customers will not be required to show vaccination status at Walmart stores.
Walmart’s corporate website has gone into detail about its response to coronavirus. On neither the general coronavirus information page nor the news and updates page could we identify any instance of Walmart announcing that it was implementing a vaccination mandate upon its customers.
