Social media users claim that the former owner of professional football’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers purchased a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal to criticize the President.

We discovered the original claim that the full page ad was created by the former Bucs owner was originally tweeted out by Senator Ted Cruz and then retweeted or liked over 40,000 times. The newspaper ad was signed by Hugh F. Culverhouse, Jr. and ran Aug. 26 in the Wall Street Journal and New York Post.
However, since that tweet gained traction, an ESPN reporter tweeted out a correction as to the originator of the ad. According to Jenna Laine, the full page ad was not from the former Bucs owner who died in 1994. Instead, the former Buc’s owner’s son, Hugh Jr. who is a lawyer, real estate investor, and philanthropist bought the ad.
It was Hugh Culverhouse, Sr. who owned the Buccaneers. According to the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, the senior Hugh Culverhouse was the longtime owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He was the original owner of the Buccaneers, and he is credited for making Tampa a major league town.
