The Claim

Prisoner Zakaria Al-Zubaidi sends a message through his lawyer to the Israelis after his re-arrest.

Emerging story

MENA: Social media users, particularly Facebook, circulate a message that they claimed was addressed to the Israelis by the prisoner Zakaria Al-Zubaidi. The message explains the reasons for his escape and that his lawyer shared the message after Al-Zubaidi’s re-arrest on September 11.

Misbar’s Analysis

MENA: The Commission of Detainees Affairs denied that the prisoner Zakaria Al-Zubaidi sent a message to the Israelis after his re-arrest. The commission's spokesman, Hassan Abd Rabbo, told Misbar that the prisoner Al-Zubaidi had one visit on September 15, and the commission published the contents of what he conveyed through his lawyer. He did not send any message to the Israelis.

Yahya Al-Zubaidi, Zakaria's brother, also denied the Misbar team the authenticity of the circulating message. On September 10, the Israeli occupation forces re-arrested Yaqoub Qadri and Mahmoud Ardah. A day later, they arrested Zakaria Al-Zubaidi and Muhammad Ardah, four of the six who managed to escape from Gilboa prison through a tunnel they dug outside the prison on the sixth of this month.
