Emerging story
A video is circulating on social media and news sites with captions that claim it shows members of that Taliban in the Kabul home of Salahuddin Ramani, the former Afghan foreign minister. The video shows a group of men entering what appears to be a storage room, coming across bottles of alcoholic drinks, and inspecting their contents.
Misbar’s Analysis
MENA: Misbar's investigation found that the captions on the video are false. The video shows the Czech embassy in Kabul, not the home of Salahuddin Rabbani. Czech media has confirmed that the video in fact shows the embassy, which was evacuated during the Taliban’s recent return to power. A representative from the Czech foreign ministry also confirmed to Reuters that the video was filmed in a warehouse inside the Czech embassy.
Rabbani stated on his official Facebook page that he believed this false claim was the work of the “Taliban propaganda machine.” Rabbani was the minister of foreign affairs in Afghanistan from 2015 to 2019.
In addition, the labels on much of the alcohol in the video appear to be Czech, including Becherovka and Slivovitz.
