Emerging story
In recent days, a number of social media users have been sharing a photo of the actor George Clooney appearing to wear an anti-Trump t-shirt. This shirt compares Trump and his supporters to the Nazis and the Confederacy, stating the years in which all three were defeated.
These posts have seen significant attention online. In fact, the most popular post that we could find has gained over 4,100 shares to date.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that the text on the shirt has been digitally added. The original photo also dates to over a year before Trump won the presidency. A reverse image search shows that the photograph was taken on September 8th, 2015. In the original, the shirt contains no political message. Instead, the shirt promotes Casamigos Tequila, Clooney’s tequila company.
George Clooney has previously been outspoken in his criticism of former President Trump. For example, in 2017, he told the Daily Beast that Trump was a hypocrite for campaigning against coastal elites while being a coastal elite.
