Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and verified that the caption accompanying the clip is misleading. The video clip actually first circulated in 2017. Social media users claimed then that it originated in India, but several Indian media outlets denied the rumors.
In 2018, the video was uploaded to YouTube, this time with the claim it was taken in Oman. The video was uploaded under the title “Super Cyclonic Storm Gonu and the extent of the damage it caused to the port of the coastal Al Khaburah Wilayat.”
Cyclone Gonu was a tropical storm that hit the Sultanate’s mainland in 2007 and caused several deaths.
Oman’s Sultanate has been on high alert over tropical Cyclone Shaheen that has hit the country’s coastline early Sunday, Oct. 03, this week.
