Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it misleading. Apple did not, nor planned to, remove telegram from the iPhone app store. USA Today reported that spokespersons for both Apple and Telegram refuted the claim, asserting that ‘’the claims on social media are baseless’’. It’s worth noting that the circulation of the claim followed an event that took place in mid-January 2021. The Washington Post reported that ‘’a non-profit group sued Apple in federal court, demanding that it remove Telegram from its App Store, for failing to crack down on violent extremists conversation after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol’’. The group charged Apple with allowing Telegram to be available on iPhone App Store.
