Photo Altered, Not a Statue for Mohamed Salah in the UK
Mohamed Salah’s photo was added to the original image (Twitter).

The Claim

A photo shows a statue of Mohamed Salah in the UK.

Emerging story

Accounts and pages on social media have recently circulated a photo they claimed was of a statue for Mohamed Salah, an Egyptian footballer playing as Liverpool’s forward in the UK.

Photo Description: Posted on Facebook, the photo shows Mo Salah’s fabricated image and edited onto another photo to look like a statue. The post uses the photo to criticize Egyptian media’s lack of attention to the Egyptian star when the UK has allegedly “built a statue for him.”

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the photo and verified that it was fabricated. Mohamed Salah’s picture was added to the original image of the Wellington Monument at Phoenix Park in Dublin, Ireland, not in the UK.

London’s Madame Tussauds wax museum did, however, announce in January 2020 that it is creating a wax figure for Liverpool player Mohamed Salah.
