Emerging story
Hours after an apparent military coup on Monday in Sudan, there were circulating posts about the release of Sudan's PM Abdullah Hamdok and his wife.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found the circulating false. According to a statement issued by the Sudanese Prime Minister's office, Abdullah Hamdok and his wife were kidnapped were taken to an unknown destination by a military force.
The deceptive posts attempted to impersonate the Sky News Arabia channel's usual post’s identity. Yes, there was a lookalike design, but as we can see, the writing font on the misleading posts was different from what the channel customarily used.
Furthermore, the broadcasting network didn’t report anything about the release of Hamdok.
Also, the image on the circulating post is outdated. It is cropped from a picture taken on September 30, 2019, when Sudan's PM met the French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Presidential Palace in Paris.
