Emerging story
Pages and accounts on Facebook and Twitter have recently circulated an alleged tweet attributed to Saudi preacher Mohammad Alarefe. In the alleged tweet, Alarefe said: “I was attending a scientific conference in New York for NASA about the moon. Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulated claim and found that it was fake. It is not Mohammad Alarefe’s official account. The Twitter handle @al-arifi.com to which the alleged tweet is attributed does not belong to any username on the platform.
The photo is clearly and poorly fabricated. This is obvious from the space between the @ sign and the username that follows it. The username for Alarefe’s official account is @MohamadAlarefe.
The photos above clearly show the difference between the fake account handles and the official one, which belongs to Mohammad Alarefe.
Looking at Alarefe’s official Twitter account, Misbar has verified that no such tweet was made. Nor is there any similar post on Alarefe’s Facebook account.
The last time any social media presence or activity for Alarefe on Facebook and Twitter was dated May 6, 2019.
