Emerging story
Pages and accounts on Facebook have recently circulated information that Twitter has suspended the account of an AS Roma Club football player named Eldor Shomurodov. The claim added that the reason for the account suspension was that the player had criticized people who identify as LGBTQ. The alleged tweet reads: “I am a footballer and i am not fine with that. Not comfortable at all. Imagine your kids to play football with gays. Fuck no! Why people accepting this as normal. Men for women and women for men.”
The alleged tweet started to circulate following the announcement by Australian footballer Josh Cavallo that “I’m a footballer, and I’m gay.”

Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating and found it fake. The official account of the Italian AS Roma Club denied the claim on Twitter.
Adelaide United player Josh Cavallo has come out as gay, becoming the only current top-flight male professional footballer in the world to do so.
A fake account with the name of AS Roma Club forward Eldor Shomurodov has initially commented on the Aussie player’s video clip tweet criticizing his behavior. However, the account impersonating Shomurodov was later suspended, and the comment was deleted.
