Emerging story
Facebook pages and accounts have recently circulated a photo allegedly showing the 2,800-meter high Abudelauri lakes, located near the village of Roshka in Georgia.
Photo Description: The screenshot shows one of the Facebook posts sharing the claim and alleged photo.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulated claim and found it misleading. The photo shows Iceland’s, not Georgia’s, highlands as the snow thaws.
The photo was posted on a website for background photos included in a group of other photos for an Icelandic volcano.
Misbar found a photo of the same place, taken by photographer Sebastian Müller during his 10-day trip. He used a drone and was able to capture aerial views of famous landscapes, taking advantage of the different colors produced by geothermal activity in the country.
Abudelauri’s Green, Blue, and White colorful lakes in Georgia also enjoy a stunning view, but their geographic features are different from the circulated photos.
