Old Video Shared as Anti-vaccine Mandate Protests in Austria
The video is from 2019 (YouTube).

The Claim

A video depicts people protesting against the decisions against people who have not received a vaccine against COVID-19.

Emerging story

A video of people protesting has been shared widely on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. The accompanying claim is that the protest took place in Vienna, Austria, against the decision to impose measures targeting people who have not received a vaccine against COVID-19.

Misbar’s Analysis

The Misbar team investigated the claim and found it false. Since November 29, 2019, the shared video clip on YouTube has been old. Around 6,000 people came out to cheer on Borussia Moenchengladbach, who were playing the Austrian Wolfsberger club. The match was part of the European League and was held in Graz, Austria.

Misbar also discovered a YouTube video entitled "Fans in Graz - Wolfsberger, and Mönchengladbach," which contained footage of the same incident from another angle.

The claim comes after Austrian authorities imposed home quarantines on people who had not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 beginning November 15, citing an increase in the number of infections in the country. Given the findings, the Misbar team considers the claim misleading because the video is old and has nothing to do with any current COVID-19 protests.
