The Claim

Emerging story

Over the last few days, social media accounts and pages have circulated alleged news that Spanish Barcelona Club coach Xavier Hernández Creus is interested in having the Algerian football player Baghdad Bounedjah join the club. The news also mentions that he’s on the list of names for the club’s potential January reinforcements. Other news said that the coach officially asked the Club to sign a contract with the player, while other social media users claimed that the news appeared on Spanish newspaper SPORT.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulated video, and it turned out to be fake. Barcelona Club did not announce that it is interested in bringing Bounedjah to the team, nor did the club tell that it will ‘officially’ sign a contract with the player.

In a press conference held yesterday, November 22, coach Xavi Hernandez denied the claim that he is including Bounedjah. Xavi also said in a statement to beIN Sports in Spain that Bounedjah is an admirable player. Still, Barcelona is not interested in joining the team as he is already playing for Qatar’s Al-Sadd Club.

Spanish newspaper SPORTS has published on Nov. 21 that the Barcelona coach is interested in the Algerian striker Bounedjah, the goalscorer for the Qatari Al-Sadd Club.

Xavi has recently left Al-Sadd Club to train for Barcelona. He already had his first debut with the team in a match against Espanyol on Nov. 20.
