Emerging story
Pages and accounts on the social networking platform Facebook recently circulated news that Palestine has been removed from the world rankings for quality of education for the year 2021.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar was able to verify that the story being circulated was a fake story by visiting the World Economic Forum's official website. In its most recent report, published in 2020, there was no mention of the education indicator.
According to a 2021 report, education has not been included in the global competitiveness index.
After contacting Muhammad Matar, the Director General of Educational Research and Development in the Palestinian Ministry of Education, the Misbar team was able to confirm that Palestine was not included in any international rankings for the quality of education at all.
Claims that Palestine will be removed from World Economic Forum's quality of education rankings in 2021 are false, according to a statement issued by Palestine's Ministry of Education. "Palestine did not enter the classification in order to get out of it," it reads.
