The video was posted in October (Twitter).

The Claim

A video clip shows the funeral procession in Sudan following recent protests.

Emerging story

Several social media users are spreading a video clip that they claim depicts a farewell procession for the martyrs of Bahri in Sudan, who were killed during demonstrations on Wednesday, November 17, in opposition to the army's coup and control of the country.

Misbar’s Analysis

An investigation by Misbar found that the circulating video was posted in October 2020. The video took place in Kadugli, South Kordofan, following the October 21 Million Man March events to support the peaceful transfer of power to civilians and the completion of the comprehensive peace process.

The claim coincides with the funeral of hundreds of protesters in Bahri, where 11 people were killed during the November 17 marches. As of November 20, the Central Committee of Sudan Doctors reported a total of 16 victims.

Sudan has witnessed continuous demonstrations since the head of the Sudanese Military Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, announced the dissolution of the Sovereign Council, the Council of Ministers, and the declaration of a state of emergency in the country.

There has also been a halt to work on many constitutional articles and the detention of Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok and several other members of his administration. Based on their findings, the Misbar team concludes that the claim is false because the video is outdated.
