This Clip Does Not Show People in London in Solidarity With Aboutrika
The video was filmed in Russia in 2020 (Facebook).

The Claim

In a video, people in London show their support for Mohamed Aboutrika's anti-homosexual stance.

Emerging story

Users on Facebook and Twitter have shared a video purporting to show people supporting former Egyptian football star Mohamed Aboutrika's homosexuality stance. The video shows pedestrians trampling a rainbow flag on a street in London.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it misleading.

The video was shared on social media and Russian websites a year ago and has nothing to do with Mohamed Aboutrika's stance on homosexuality.

According to Russian media, the video was taken in front of the US Embassy in Moscow during a protest against raising the Rainbow Flag in Russia, where homosexuality is illegal.

Mohamed Aboutrika, a former Egypt international, has described homosexuality as a "dangerous ideology" in the context of an English Premier League initiative to promote LGBTQ+ inclusion.
