Facebook accounts have recently circulated a photo claiming it was of Qatar’s Emir giving the shirt of his country’s national football team to former Egyptian footballer Mohammed Aboutrika. This is made as a reference or symbol to the 2022 World Cup to be hosted in Qatar. The claim attributed the alleged news and photo to the Al Jazeera TV channel in Egypt.

Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulated photo and found it fake. The photo is fabricated. It does not show Qatar’s Emir handing his country’s national football team’s shirt to Aboutrika. Instead, the actual photo depicts Qatar’s Emir giving the shirt to Mohamed al-Menfi, the Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya, on September 15 of this year. The shirt has the number 22 on it, in reference to the 2022 World Cup to be hosted in Qatar.
The photo was taken during an official visit by the President of the Libyan Presidential Council to the Amiri Diwan in Qatar.
