Several social media users and news pages have circulated yesterday night the news of an explosion at a Hamas weapon depot in a Palestinian camp in southern Lebanon.
They also have circulated clips showing a number of small red flashes above the southern city, followed by a large explosion.
Misbar’s Analysis
A massive blast rocked a Palestinian camp in the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre, resulting in several causalities.
The blast occurred late Friday night in the Burj al-Shemali camp.
The NNA said the blast emanated from a weapons depot belonging to the Palestinian Hamas group. Hamas has stated the accident and mentioned that a short circuit caused it in a depot containing oxygen and gas cylinders and raw materials designated to use in fighting the virus.
Hamas added that the blast had damaged some properties and limited casualties.
However, initial reports indicated that a fire began in a diesel tanker and spread to a nearby mosque in the camp, igniting some of the group's armaments stored there.
The exact cause of the explosion is still suspicous and unclear.
