Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulated claim and found it misleading. The video is outdated; it was not taken after Algeria’s team defeated Morocco’s in the most recent Arab Cup held in Doha. Instead, the video was taken in July 2019 and did show a French lady hurling racist slurs against Algerians while they celebrated their national team’s victory against Guinea’s during the CAF Champions League.
The claim started to circulate when Algerian fans went out on the streets in France to celebrate their national team’s victory against Morocco’s team in the Arab Cup 2021’s quarter-finals on Dec 11.
The French far right National Rally party leader, Marine Le Pen, threatened to publish the Algerian fans who celebrated in the streets of Paris, accusing them of attacking the police.
