Users on the social networking site Twitter are circulating a statement attributed to Gianni Infantino, President of the International Football Association (FIFA), stating that “Egypt, under the leadership of Sisi, can organize the FIFA World Cup.”
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the widely circulated claim and determined that it was false, as the FIFA president never stated that Egypt, led by Sisi, could host the World Cup. Instead, during an interview with MBC's Stadium's Echo program, Gianni Infantino responded, “Yes, we can see the World Cup in Arab countries like Saudi Arabia in the future.”
"Qatar has succeeded in organizing this tournament in the eight stadiums that are beyond description," he said when discussing Qatar's organization of the Arab Cup. They're awe-inspiring. Four matches can be viewed in a single day. This tournament was a good test of Qatar's readiness to host the World Cup, even though it is still over a year away.
At the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt, Infantino made previous statements about his admiration for Egyptian civilization, saying that "Egypt's civilization is inspiring to humanity" and that he always happy when he visits Africa. In Cairo, he discovers a new level of fervor and fascination for the game that he hadn't experienced before.
