According to social media users, Sudan Prime Minister Hamdok is under house arrest for the second time. The claim appears to have been made by Sudanese journalist Hanadi Alsiddig. According to some users, he was also prevented from delivering a speech scheduled for New Year's Eve.
Misbar’s Analysis
The Misbar team investigated the claim and found it to be false. The Prime Minister's office denied the claim that he is under house arrest on their official Twitter account, adding that he has "complete freedom of movement, meeting, and communication."
PM Hamdok had been scheduled to address the nation on New Year's Eve, but he did not appear. The speech was canceled for unknown reasons. Despite the fact that the Prime Minister did not respond to the claims or provide a reason for the suspension of the speech, his office denied the claim. As a result of the findings, the Misbar team confirms that the claim is false and that Hamdok is not under house arrest at this time. The claim comes after at least 4 people were killed on December 30th during ongoing anti-military demonstrations.
