Social media accounts have recently shared a video claiming it documented an assault by the Swedish police on a 16-year-old Syrian refugee.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s team investigated the claim and found it misleading. The video is outdated; it was taken in Feb. 2015 when a Swedish security guard assaulted a 9-year-old Moroccan child. Media outlets at the time reported that the security guard assaulted the child after he went on a train in Malmö without a ticket. The media outlets also mentioned that the security guard was suspended later for interrogation.
Swedish media reported that about 800 Moroccan unaccompanied children had faced a difficult life in Sweden’s major cities for several years, but only a few of them are left in the country by 2020.
