The picture below has been circulating on Facebook pages and accounts since yesterday, Sunday, January 23, 2022, claiming it depicts the recent heavy snowfall that has begun in Istanbul.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and discovered it to be misleading, as the photo belonged to a snowstorm that hit the Spanish capital Madrid in January 2021. Susana Vera was the photographer who captured this image for Reuters.
Due to heavy snowfall in Istanbul and other parts of Turkey, airports and highways across the country were closed.
