Emerging story
Social media users have recently circulated two images that their publishers claim to depict a dust storm in Iraq.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and discovered it to be false, as the two photos are old and do not depict a dust storm in Iraq.
The first photo was published on Iraqi news sites in April 2013 as a dust storm that swept through the eastern Iraqi province of Maysan, while the second was published on Arab news sites in March 2017, denying that the images were of a recent dust storm in Iraq.
According to the Iraqi News Agency, a dust storm will hit Anbar Province in western Iraq on January 20, 2022, accompanied by a drop in temperature (INA).
The Iraqi meteorological organization has received no reports of a dust storm that hit Anbar Province in the last two days or a dust storm that reached the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
