Sudan’s Director General of the Public Authority for Radio and Television Did Not Resign
Luqman Ahmed denied his resignation to Al-Sudani (BBC).

The Claim

Sudan's Public Authority for Radio and Television Director General resigned.

Emerging story

On December 25, several Sudanese news outlets and journalists reported that Luqman Ahmed, the Director General of the Public Authority for Radio and Television, had resigned. Luqman's alleged resignation was in response to his opposition to the killing of peaceful protesters.

Misbar’s Analysis

Luqman Ahmed denied the resignation news to the Al-Sudani newspaper and stated that he is still performing his duties on a regular basis. Former Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdouk appointed Luqman to his position in February 2020. When the military took over on October 25, 2021, coup leader General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan fired Luqman and replaced him with Ibrahim Al-Buz'i as acting director. After signing a political agreement with Al-Burhan, Hamdouk restored Luqman about a month later.

Nonetheless, despite Hamdouk's resignation as Prime Minister in January 2022 amid unrest, Luqman retained his position as Director General of the Public Authority for Radio and Television.

It is worth noting that anti-coup demonstrations continue in Sudan despite the military apparatus's violence, which has killed 79 protesters since the 25th of October 2021 coup, according to the Central Committee of Sudan Doctors (CCSD).
