This Photo Was Taken in the West Bank, Not in India
Palestinian woman scuffles with Israeli border police (Reuters).

The Claim

A photograph depicts a woman resisting security guards and atrocities committed by the Indian army in Kashmir.

Emerging story

Using the hashtag #ArrestIndianArmyChief, social media users circulated an image of a woman resisting security guards, claiming it depicted the Indian army humiliating people in Indian-administrated Kashmir recently.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the claim and discovered it to be misleading. Our team looked up the hashtag mentioned by the users in their tweets and discovered it was circulating after a UK-based legal investigation firm filed an application "calling on British police to arrest Indian government officials for "war crimes" in India-administered Kashmir."

Using Google Image Reverse Search, our team discovered that the image was originally posted to Reuters Pictures in 2010 as a "Palestinian woman scuffles with Israeli border police during clashes at Qalandia checkpoint near the West Bank city of Ramallah."

A supporting image within the article body

Description: The picture is from the West Bank city of Ramallah, not India.

Also, many news reports on Gulf News and other websites confirmed that the picture was misinterpreted and had nothing to do with recent events in Kashmir.
