It was discovered that Mohamed Salah's statement had been made up and had not been published by the BBC or any other reputable sports source, as Misbar had investigated the widely reported claim.
On January 22, following Egypt's quarter-final match against Morocco in the African Cup of Nations, the BBC issued its most recent statement on Salah, in which Salah stated, "We must keep our feet on the ground because we can't think much about the future." "Rather than fantasizing about the semi-finals, we must concentrate on preparing for the big game against Cameroon," he said.
