Social media accounts and pages have recently been circulating a statement attributed to Egypt's captain and Liverpool player, Mohamed Salah, to the BBC, saying, "My goals are beautiful, but my president's goals are more beautiful."
Misbar’s Analysis
It was discovered that Mohamed Salah's statement had been made up and had not been published by the BBC or any other reputable sports source, as Misbar had investigated the widely reported claim.
On January 22, following Egypt's quarter-final match against Morocco in the African Cup of Nations, the BBC issued its most recent statement on Salah, in which Salah stated, "We must keep our feet on the ground because we can't think much about the future." "Rather than fantasizing about the semi-finals, we must concentrate on preparing for the big game against Cameroon," he said.
"I believe we played well against a very talented Moroccan team. In every match, my teammates do what is required and do their best to go as far as possible. It's not easy to play two matches in a row with extra time, but I can assure you that we're good and in a very good tournament."
The statement was made following Egypt's 2-1 big win over Morocco, in which Mohamed Salah scored both goals, qualifying Egypt for the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
