Emerging story
Social media accounts recently shared an alleged photo that claimed to be the cover photo of TIME Magazine. The photo was shared with the caption: Obaid Al Wasmi, a member of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, will work with the American Treasury to recover the stolen $100 billion dollars for Kuwait.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s team investigated the claim and found it fake. The cover photo was fabricated; the photo did not appear in any of the issues published on the website of the Time Magazine. The subject of the cover of the latest issue of the magazine, issued in January, was about Omicron, the most recent COVID-19 variant.
The TIME Magazine chose Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, as its Person of the Year 2021 and chose his picture for its cover.
Al Wasmi stressed that the issues of corruption and the recovery of state money are at the top of the priorities for the next stage.
He also added in a tweet he posted on his Twitter account on Jan. 29 that investigations will take place, and accountability will affect those involved, including sheiks, ministers, representatives, companies, former and current government officials, and their partners abroad.
