Emerging story
A screenshot purporting to be a tweet from the New York Post's official Twitter account on January 20, 2022, has recently gone viral.
The screenshot depicts a satellite image of Russian troops along the Ukrainian border in the shape of "Let's go, Brandon."
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and discovered it to be satirical.
The New York Post did not tweet a satellite image that depicts Russian troops on the Ukrainian border in the "Let's go Brandon" formation.
A satirical Twitter account described as a "meme-making" profile shared the screenshot first.
"Let's Go, Brandon," according to the BBC, is an anti-US President Joe Biden chant inspired by an interview with a NASCAR driver. It's also "a way for conservatives to avoid what they perceive to be liberal bias in the mainstream media."
The original New York Post tweet lacks a satellite image of thanks in the shape of "Let's go, Brandon."
After using Google Image Reverse Search, it turned out that Maxar Technologies took the original satellite image. Other news reports have detailed how satellite images show Russian troops and tanks along the Ukrainian border.
Description: Maxar Technologies took the original satellite image.
