The Claim

International financial aid for Tunisia has been suspended.

Emerging story

Social media users and pages have circulated posts claiming a Tunisian website has published a report on the suspension of the International financial aid for Tunis.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The Tunisian website did not mention any suspension of the international financial aid for Tunisia.

The article cited that President Kais Saied has lost one milliard Dinar of the European Union aid for Tunis, referring to the Vice-President of the European Commission's statement Josep Borrell.

Borell has told TV5Monde that there was a discussion about the suspension of the financial aid program for Tunis. He confirmed that it is not sanctioning the country since there is direct financial aid for Tunisian citizens. The suspension is related only to the financial support for the Tunisian state due to the recent political developments in Tunis.

Misbar's investigation has revealed that no reliable sources are announcing the official suspension of support and aid to Tunis. The G7 countries and the European Union have mentioned their deep concern about dissolving the Supreme Judicial Council, whose mission is to ensure the proper functioning of the judicial system, and did not mention any suspension of financial aid.

It is worth mentioning that an International Monetary Fund delegation has begun negotiations about possible economic reforms for Tunisia to get a loan to fill the state budget deficit.
