Emerging story
Facebook accounts have recently circulated a photo claiming it showed an eastern Ukraine pipeline on Fire on the evening of Feb. 18.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s team investigated the circulated claim and found it misleading. The photo is not from Ukraine. Instead, it shows a refinery in Iran that caught fire in June 2021.
An explosion resulting from a liquefied gas pipeline leakage caused a huge fire in an oil refinery south of the Iranian capital, Tehran, on June 2, 2021.
The claim started to circulate on Feb. 19, 2022, following an explosion that caused a fire in a gas pipeline in eastern Ukraine’s city of Luhansk. Less than an hour later, a car bomb exploded in an empty square in the city of Donetsk, southeastern Ukraine.
