Facebook and Twitter users have recently shared a video they claimed shows explosions in Ukraine this morning, Feb. 24, as Russia launches its full-scale military operation.

Misbar’s team investigated the circulated claim and found it fake. The video is a 3D digital design that was posted in Oct. 2021 on an Instagram account that goes by the name borisao_blois. The account holder, per the account’s bio, is a 3D animator.

The photos shared with the claim, Misbar’s team found, were taken from a video clip published by Hezbollah’s media center on Feb. 16. The video showed a part of military training in a mountainous area.

The claim started to circulate following Putin’s de facto declaration of war this morning through what he called a “special military operation” in eastern Ukraine that left dozens of casualties.

The United States announced today that it will present a draft resolution to the UN Security Council that condemns the Russian military operations in Ukraine.
