A video of fighter jets flying in formation over a city has gone viral on social media. Users claim that Russian jets have arrived in Kyiv, Ukraine, while others claim Kharkiv. Users added that "Ukraine is under attack" and being invaded, and some speculated that it is World War III.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar looked into the claim and discovered it to be false. Using a relevant word search, the original video was found and uploaded to YouTube on May 4, 2020. "Parade rehearsal 04/05/2020, aircraft rollover over Tushino," the title translates from Russian. A screenshot of the video is shown below.
The fighter jets are practicing in Tushino, west of Moscow, Russia. The clip is a snippet from a longer video. Despite global efforts to prevent the conflict, Russia's President Putin has approved a "special military operation" that will launch an invasion of Ukraine by sea, air, and land. While the full context of the video could not be confirmed, the Misbar team confirms that the claim is false and that the video is old and does not depict Russian fighter jets entering any Ukrainian city based on the findings and date it was uploaded on YouTube.
