Emerging story
Accounts and users on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are circulating an image purportedly depicting a meeting between Jordan's Foreign Minister and Russia's ambassador to Jordan. According to users, the Russian ambassador summoned the Jordanian official to discuss the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it misleading. The image does not depict the Jordanian Foreign Minister and the Russian Ambassador to Jordan meeting to discuss the recent Ukrainian events. Instead, the research found that the photo dates back to a meeting between the Jordanian ambassador to Russia, Khaled Al-Shawabkeh, and the former boxer and Member of the state of Duma, Nikolai Valuev, to discuss and develop tourism and develop bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ayman Al-Safadi is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, while Gleb Desyatnikov is the Russian ambassador to Jordan, neither of whom are depicted in the circulating image.

The claims began circulating after Russia launched a military operation against Ukraine, with casualties reported on both sides. However, the Misbar team confirms the claim is misleading based on the findings. The meeting between the officials was unrelated to the ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine; it took place in February 2022, before the invasion began.
