Recently, pages and accounts on Facebook and Twitter have circulated a photo that is alleged to be of a plane crash in downtown Abu Dhabi.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulated claim and discovered it to be misleading. The image is old, and it depicts plumes of smoke rising in Gaza City following an Israeli airstrike on August 8, 2018. The photo was taken by Mahmud Hams for the AFP news agency.
Misbar previously investigated the same image with a different claim, alleging that it depicted the bombing of Houthi positions in Yemen's capital, Sanaa. The claim was also found to be misleading.
There have been no recent reports of a plane crash in Abu Dhabi or any other UAE region.
