Eastern Ghouta airstrikes in 2018 (Twitter).

The Claim

The image depicts a Ukrainian child who was injured during Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Emerging story

Many social media users have shared a photo of a wounded child, claiming that it depicts a victim of the Ukraine war.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar looked into the claim and found it to be misleading, as the image depicts a Syrian child who was injured in 2018.

Using Google Reverse Image, we found the image attached to a BBC article published in 2018 with a caption that refers to civilians killed during airstrikes near Ghouta, Syria.

We also found the picture posted to Image Stores and an agency website with a caption reading: “A young girl is treated at a hospital after a bombing in Mesraba, Eastern al-Ghouta, Syria, 03 January 2018.”

According to the agency's website, at least 19 people were killed in airstrikes by government forces on Erbeen and Mesraba.
