Emerging story
Twitter users have recently shared a photo they claimed showed an Israeli airstrike against southern Syria on Sunday, March 6.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s team investigated the circulated claim and found it misleading. The photo does not show the Israeli airstrike that recently hit southern Syria. In fact, the photo was already shared on April 14, 2018, showing a joint airstrike by the U.S., U.K., and France, which allegedly hit the most prominent chemical weapons depots in Syria.
According to Moscow, the Independent then published a news article in which it said Syria had intercepted most of these Cruise missiles.
The claim started to circulate following an Israeli airstrike that hit the south of Syria on Monday, March 7, according to Syrian news agency SANA. The agency did not mention whether there was any damage from the airstrike. Another airstrike had left two Syrian civilians dead near Damascus on the same morning.
