2017 Video Shared as Recent Anti-Houthi Demonstrations in Sanaa
The video dates back to 2017 (YouTube).

The Claim

A newly captured video shows a group of Houthis attacking protesters in Sanaa, Yemen's capital.

Emerging story

Following recent protests in Sanaa, Yemen's capital, Twitter users recently shared a video showing Houthis persecuting protestors. The footage was claimed to have been shot recently.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading. The video is old and was posted on YouTube in December 2017 with the description "the situation in Sanaa." The video shows a group of people physically assaulting another group inside what appears to be a marketplace. Even though Misbar's team was unable to verify the identity of the people appearing in the video, or the date and location of the shooting, it is certain that the video is not related to the recent protests in Yemen's capital, Sanaa.

Description: The video was posted on YouTube, back in 2017, with the description: "the situation in Sanaa."

There are ongoing anti-Houthi protests in Sanaa and several other cities in northern Yemen due to the lack of public services and the soaring prices of fuel and other essential goods.
