Social media users have circulated a photo of a wounded woman covered in blood, claiming that it does not depict a real injured woman who was injured during the Russian military action in Ukraine. The circulating posts claim that the woman is a “crisis actor” that someone hired to play scenes in 2018.

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be fake. A series of images, including this picture, was taken by Wolfgang Schwan for Anadolu Images.
Many international media outlets have reported on the woman’s story. News reports have mentioned that she was injured during a shelling attack on a building in Chuhuiv, Ukraine, on Feb. 24, 2022.
According to AFP News Agency, the woman was later identified as a teacher called Olena Kurilo.
Other social media users claim the picture is from a gas explosion in Magnitogorsk, Russia, in 2018. However, we did not find any similar picture of Olena Kurilo posted earlier in 2018.
